Open Omaha was an event that JuSTEMagine participated in this last August. The goal of this event was to display an array of organizations and places that make up Omaha’s communities. This included the Culxr House, a place where artists and activists gather as a safe space to make a change, as well as The Omaha Star, Benson Theater, and Prairie STEM at the Mastercraft.
Prairie STEM and JuSTEMagine have similar missions. They are both non-profits working very hard to provide STEM education, with a focus on using Social Emotional Learning. Prairie STEM has many interesting programs, including STEM and virtual activity kits, movie, and game nights. You can visit their website to learn more about them Here.
Brownell Talbot and Millard North students and members of JuSTEMagine including Claire Cenovic, Amuda Balu, Aanya Mishra, Francesca Vidal, and Serena Zezulak volunteered to help Prairie STEM with their booth for Open Omaha on August 6th and 7th. Their goal was to introduce those attending Open Omaha to JuSTEMagine. JuSTEMagine differs from Prairie STEM in that they are a student-run organization. This is a significant difference because there is certainly something to be said for students interested in developing their involvement in STEM learning from other students.
JuSTEMagine has reached out across the country and even to other countries. Different positions within the organization are responsible for getting information about JuSTEMagine out into the world, providing opportunities for kids to get involved in science, grow as people and gain confidence in themselves as members of the scientific world. You can get involved in JuSTEMagine as a student by contacting the Board and opening a Chapter at any school. There are many opportunities to help JuSTEMagine through volunteering, this can include art and organizing different creative events to make STEM more accessible to all children.
